The IDP Smart 31 dual-sided ID card printer (SMART-31D) provides automatic printing on both faces of staff, student, visitor and membership cards. Use the front for a photo and identification, and the reverse for supporting information, barcodes or terms. Its automatic input hopper holds up to 80 cards.

IDP rates its YMCKOK duplex mode at 138 cards per hour (26 seconds per card). Monochrome is rated at 720 cards per hour. Actual job speed depends on the ribbon, print mode, encoding, design and card handling. Colour resolution is 300 dpi; 600 and 1200 dpi settings are monochrome-only modes.

Select the required hardware option

Use the Printer Options selector for the base model, Ethernet connectivity, magnetic encoder or contactless/MIFARE encoder configuration. Supplies for the IDP Smart 31 dual-sided printer

For a colour front with a black reverse, consider the IDP 659376 YMCKOK ribbon, rated for 200 prints in its intended mode. Its extra black panel supports reverse-side text and graphics. Confirm the driver mode when planning colour on both faces, because ribbon use per completed card changes with the layout.

Choose printable blank white PVC cards within the supported thickness range and add IDP 659909 long cleaning cards for maintenance. The compatible black monochrome ribbon is another option for single-colour designs.

What can go on the back of the card?

Use the reverse for return instructions, terms, contact information or a barcode, keeping the photograph and key identification prominent on the front. Automatic duplex printing completes both faces within the same job and reduces the need to handle and turn each card manually.

Which speed figure applies to two-sided colour printing?

IDP specifies 138 cards per hour for the YMCKOK duplex mode. Single-sided colour ratings describe a different job. Allow time for data preparation, artwork processing, encoding if fitted and collecting cards when estimating your finished batch.

Does choosing an encoder also add Ethernet?

The selectable options identify separate configurations. Check the exact combination if you need network printing and encoding together. A contactless/MIFARE option must support your particular card type, software and access-control system.

Can I start without buying a bundle?
