IDP Smart card printers use a variety of ribbon types to produce professional results. Each ribbon type is tailored to specific printing needs, from full-colour photographs to single-colour text or barcodes. The following are the main types of IDP Smart printer ribbons available:

  • YMCKO Colour Ribbons: These 5-panel ribbons (Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black, and Overlay) print full-colour designs on one side of a card and add a protective overlay layer. They are ideal for vibrant photo IDs and badges (for example, a Smart 51 YMCKO ribbon yields up to 250 prints per roll).

  • YMCKOK Dual-Sided Ribbons: 6-panel ribbons (YMCKO with an extra Black panel) designed for dual-sided card printing. They enable full-colour on the front and black text or barcodes on the back of the card. A YMCKOK ribbon typically produces around 200 printed cards per roll on standard Smart series printers, making it perfect for dual-sided ID cards.

  • Black Monochrome Ribbons: Single-colour resin ribbons for printing crisp black text, barcodes, and line art. Black “mono” ribbons are very economical and offer high yields. A typical black ribbon prints about 1,200 cards per roll on desktop models (and up to 3,000 with the high-capacity Smart 70 printer).

  • Other Monochrome Resin Ribbons: We also supply a range of other resin monochrome ribbons in various colours, including white, blue, red, gold, silver, and even scratch-off panels. These are perfect for printing one-colour logos, text, or special security features, while providing similarly high print yields to the black ribbon.

This includes the YMCKO full-colour ribbon (around 200 prints per roll) and high-yield black resin ribbons (up to 1,200 prints), ensuring your Smart 21 keeps printing smoothly.

  • IDP Smart 31 & Smart 51: All ribbon cartridges for the Smart 31 and Smart 51 are interchangeable between these two models. This range includes YMCKO (250-print) and YMCKOK (200-print) colour ribbons, KO (black with overlay) ribbons, and an array of monochrome resin options for single-colour printing. As with all IDP supplies, each ribbon for the 31/51 comes with a cleaning roller to maintain print quality.

  • IDP Smart 70: For this high-volume printer, we stock all the high-capacity Smart 70 ribbons needed for its larger output. YMCKO colour ribbons yield up to 500 prints per roll on the Smart 70, and YMCKOK options are available for dual-sided printing. The Smart 70 also uses extra-long monochrome resin ribbons (such as a 3,000-print black ribbon) to handle large batch jobs with ease.

  • IDP Smart-BIT: The Smart-BIT is a ribbon shredder rather than a card printer. It’s designed to securely destroy used IDP Smart printer ribbons, ensuring any personal data left on the panels is completely unreadable. We offer the Smart-BIT as part of our IDP Smart range so you can safely dispose of used ribbons and stay GDPR-compliant.
