The printer first builds the image on HDP film, then transfers it onto the card. This separates image formation from the final card surface and supports an over-the-edge finish on suitable stock. Match the card material and production volume

HID specifies CR80 cards at 30–40 mil, approximately 0.762–1.01 mm. Approved materials include PVC, composite, PET, PETG and polycarbonate suited to the process. Check the exact card construction and print surface, especially for contactless or other technology cards. The standard input hopper holds 100 cards; larger or dual input hopper arrangements are options. HID quotes up to 230 cards per hour in YMCK mode with transfer. Artwork, driver settings, encoding and added processes affect the finished-job rate. Allow time for sample approval, record preparation and supply changes when planning a batch.

The HDP6600 requires a compatible print ribbon and a separate HDP transfer film. They perform different jobs and have separate image ratings. Match both to the supplied printer and intended artwork. A ribbon for a direct-to-card Fargo printer is not a substitute, and a film rating does not automatically equal the number of completed cards for every print layout.

Is a laminator included with retransfer printing?

No. HDP film is part of the retransfer printing process. Optional LMX lamination applies an additional material using a configured lamination module. Specify that requirement separately if your cards need it.

Can it create working access-control cards?

It can print suitable card surfaces. Writing chip or magnetic-stripe data additionally requires a compatible fitted encoder, appropriate software and the correct credential technology. Printing a design onto a contactless card does not activate it in an access system.

What should I check before buying?

Confirm the supplied single-sided configuration, operating-system driver, design software, cards, ribbon, film and any required modules.
