About this product

IDP Smart 31 single-sided ID card printer

The IDP Smart 31 single-sided ID card printer (SMART-31S) prints one face of staff, student, visitor and membership cards. It suits designs that place the required photo, name and other information on one card face. Its automatic input hopper holds up to 80 cards.

Compare the correct printing modes

IDP rates the YMCKO colour mode at 180 cards per hour (20 seconds per card). Monochrome is rated at 720 cards per hour. Actual job speed depends on the ribbon, print mode, encoding, design and card handling. Colour resolution is 300 dpi; 600 and 1200 dpi settings are monochrome-only modes.

Select the required hardware option

Use the Printer Options selector for the base model, Ethernet connectivity, magnetic encoder or contactless/MIFARE encoder configuration. These selections do not imply that every option is fitted together. Ask ACB if you need a combined network-and-encoder specification, and check that the encoder and software support your exact card technology.

The standard format is CR80, with 0.38–0.76 mm supported in the manufacturer's model specifications. Use suitable printable stock and check current drivers, software compatibility and the applicable UK warranty. For automatic two-sided printing, compare the dual-sided SMART-31 listing, or read IDP's SMART-31S specifications.

SMART-31S: automatic card feeding for single-sided badges.

Plan the complete issuing station around your card design. The IDP 659366 YMCKO colour ribbon supports photographs, branding and black text, with a nominal 250-print capacity. For single-colour names and graphics, compare the compatible black monochrome ribbon. Ribbon consumption depends on the chosen layout and settings.

Add printable blank white PVC cards in a supported thickness, plus the IDP 659909 long cleaning-card kit. Keep unused cards clean, handle their edges and follow IDP's maintenance instructions.

SMART-31S buying questions

Is the Smart 31 suitable for my card design?

The single-sided model suits a front-only staff badge, membership card or visitor pass. Prepare a clear template with room for the photograph, name and organisation. If you need automatic reverse printing for return details or terms, choose the Smart 31 dual-sided printer.

How do I choose an Ethernet or encoder option?

Use the Printer Options selector for the configuration you require. Selecting Ethernet does not also select a magnetic or contactless encoder. Send ACB your connection and card-technology requirements if you need several functions together, so the exact hardware can be checked.

Does higher resolution mean 1200 dpi colour photographs?

Colour printing is 300 dpi. The higher 600 and 1200 dpi settings are monochrome modes. Choose the mode for the actual design and test small text and machine-readable codes with your intended reader.

Are software and consumables part of this offer?

Confirm the included items with ACB before ordering. You need a supported computer, an appropriate design-software licence, compatible ribbon and blank cards. Compare the separate Smart 31 Pro printer bundle if you prefer to review a packaged setup.

Would another printing method suit my cards?

For access cards, check both the printable surface and the technology required by your reader. Ask for a print test if a chip or antenna affects the surface. For occasional finished-card orders, compare our photo ID card printing service.
