Check the original printer generation before ordering

HID identifies the original HDP5000 as discontinued. That makes the exact supplied unit, driver support and future consumables important buying checks. Confirm availability, condition and support terms with ACB, especially when adding equipment to an existing card-production setup. Do not assume a specification or accessory for the HDP5000e applies to this printer.

Prepare artwork for both card faces

Retransfer printing builds the image on HDP film and transfers it onto suitable card stock. It supports an over-the-edge finish and can be useful when personalising approved technology cards. Plan each face at the design stage: a colour front with a black-text reverse differs from full-colour artwork on both faces.

The original HDP5000 accepts approved CR80 cards 0.762–1.27 mm thick. Standard hopper capacities are 100 cards input and 200 cards output. The optional dual input hopper has a narrower 30–40 mil card range. USB 2.0 and Ethernet support local or networked connections, subject to the correct installed driver and workstation setup.

Allow for ribbon, film and maintenance

You need a compatible print ribbon and separate HDP transfer film. Match both references to the original HDP5000 and the chosen artwork. An image rating on film does not automatically equal the number of completed two-sided cards. Ask ACB to confirm suitable products when browsing the Fargo consumables range.

The manufacturer user guide distinguishes normal-mode rates of 103 cards per hour for YMCK and 73 for YMCKK. Higher headline rates describe other modes and settings. Encoding, image processing and optional lamination require additional consideration when estimating how long a finished batch will take.

Does retransfer film replace a laminator?

HDP film is a required part of printing. A separate lamination module applies additional protective material and must be specified as its own configured option. Automatic printing on both faces does not mean that dual-sided lamination is included.

Can it print and encode contactless cards?

It can print approved card surfaces. Encoding requires a compatible fitted encoder, appropriate software and the exact card technology used by your system. Choose from our blank card range only after confirming those requirements; printed artwork does not activate access permissions.
