Hi-Co magnetic stripe cards

Match the magnetic stripe

A magnetic-stripe reader and an encoder serve different purposes. Use a compatible encoder and the track format required by the system; printing a barcode or a card face does not encode the stripe.

Coercivity describes the magnetic field needed for encoding. A Hi-Co stripe does not automatically store more information than a Lo-Co stripe. Confirm the required coercivity and track layout with your system provider.

Hi-Co magnetic stripe cards for your setup

Choose a quantity from 100, 500. Check that the card surface and thickness are approved for your card printer and keep print away from areas that the printer or encoder instructions exclude.

If replacing existing cards, provide the stripe specification and equipment details to ACB. A card with the same appearance may use a different technology or data format.

Prepare the printed and encoded information

Order Hi-Co magnetic stripe cards using the stripe type and data format specified by your system provider. Include the encoder model and existing stock details in an enquiry. This is more reliable than choosing a replacement from the colour or appearance of a card alone.

Keep the visible design and magnetic data in a single job specification. A printed name or reference can help staff reconcile a card with the system record. Check the sample print and read the encoded tracks with the equipment used in practice. Compare the Lo-Co stock separately if a different coercivity is required.

Hi-Co magnetic stripe cards: buying questions

Does a higher coercivity mean more data capacity?

No. Coercivity concerns the magnetic field used for encoding. The track format and system requirements determine the data layout, so specify both the stripe and the encoding process.

Will printing the card also encode its stripe?

Only an appropriately equipped setup can perform the required encoding. A printer without the suitable magnetic encoder can print the visual surface but cannot write the track data.

What should I check before a full run?

Confirm the required stripe specification, approved printer stock and artwork orientation. Encode and read a sample using the real system, and include any required test cards in the quantity you order.

Choose the required quantity and check the selected option before adding it to your basket. For help with the card specification, artwork or a matching accessory, contact ACB.
