The 3-up breakaway format

Three useful tags from one printed card.

The popular 3-up format is produced as one bank-card-sized piece that separates into three compact key tags. Each section includes a punched hole for a split ring and can carry the same customer record or individual codes, depending on the scheme.

At approximately 28 × 54mm per tag, the format gives enough room for clear branding and a carefully prepared barcode or QR code without becoming awkward on a keyring.

Choose the right format

Built around how the tag will be issued and used.

Start with the customer journey, the scanner and the information the tag needs to carry. We will help shape the format around those practical requirements.

Codes prepared for smaller cards

Compact should not mean difficult to scan.

Barcodes and QR codes need enough size, contrast and clear space around them. Tell us what your till, check-in or membership system reads so the design can be prepared around the actual scanning workflow.

Barcode

Prepared around your scanner

Use a supported barcode type with suitable width, contrast and placement.

QR code

Clear space for reliable capture

Keep the code readable for compatible camera-based or 2D scanning systems.

Variable data

One record for each customer

Print unique codes from a supplied CSV or spreadsheet export.

Numbering

A visible manual reference

Add a printed number that staff can use if a scanner or lookup fails.

Where printed key tags are used

For schemes that need to stay close at hand.

Plastic key fob cards are particularly useful when customers or staff need a compact identifier they can carry every day.

Retail loyalty

Scan rewards at the till

Give customers an easy-to-carry loyalty identifier for points, offers and account lookup.

Gyms and leisure

Fast member check-in

Use a printed barcode, QR code or member number for compatible reception and attendance systems.

Clubs and associations

Membership on the keyring

Provide members with a compact alternative or companion to a full-size membership card.

Salons and services

Quick customer lookup

Connect the tag to appointments, visit rewards or customer records through a compatible code.

Properties and assets

Clear key identification

Print property, department or asset references for estate agents, accommodation teams and managed key sets.

Venues and attractions

Recognise repeat visitors

Support annual passes, membership benefits or account lookup without requiring a wallet-size card.

Material choices

Choose the material around everyday wear.

Key tags spend their life beside keys, coins and other hard objects. We can compare standard PVC, recycled PVC and other suitable materials against durability, print finish and the expected life of the programme.

Common questions

Before you order.

The best result starts with the key tag format, scanner and customer data being agreed before artwork is finalised.

What are printed key fob cards used for?

They are compact plastic identifiers designed for a keyring. Common uses include loyalty schemes, gym and leisure membership, customer lookup, property key identification and repeat-visitor programmes.

What is a 3-up breakaway key tag card?

It is one bank-card-sized printed piece divided into three detachable key tags. Each tag has a punched hole and can be separated before issue.

Can every tag have a unique barcode or QR code?

Yes. We can print variable barcodes, QR codes, member IDs or numbering from a supplied CSV or spreadsheet file.

Should we use a barcode or QR code?

That depends on the software and scanner already in use. Tell us what the till, reception or membership system reads so we can advise on a suitable layout.

Can the key tags match our full-size loyalty cards?

Yes. Artwork and identifiers can be coordinated across loyalty cards, membership cards and key tags.

Can you add sequential numbering?

Yes. Sequential or supplied numbers can be printed as a visible reference and can correspond with a barcode or QR record.

Do we receive a proof before printing?

Yes. A production proof is supplied for approval so the artwork, text and code placement can be checked before production.

Are lower-plastic key tag materials available?

Recycled PVC and other materials may be suitable depending on the required durability and finish. Explore the ACB eco card range or ask for a recommendation.
