Get compatibility right (Paxton, MIFARE, NFC)
The print is easy — the important part is making sure the credential technology matches your readers. Many organisations inherit an existing system and don’t know whether they’re using 125 kHz proximity, 13.56 MHz smart cards, or a multi-format setup.
If you use systems such as Paxton, the safest approach is simple: we confirm your reader/credential type first, then we print (and where appropriate, encode) to match. For a quick definition of NFC (often used for 13.56 MHz tap interactions), see NFC Forum.
- We’ll ask the right questions to avoid costly mis-orders
- Option to test a sample card on your readers before rollout
- RFID + visual ID features for smoother day-to-day operations
Supplying access fobs too? See Key Fob Cards. For hospitality access credentials, view Hotel Key Cards.

RFID card options
We’ll help you select the right technology based on your readers and workflow. If you’re replacing existing cards or fobs, we can often identify what you have from system details and a sample credential.
Compatibility checklist (especially for Paxton)
To confirm compatibility quickly, tell us:
- Which platform you use (e.g. Net2 / Paxton10 / other)
- Reader type or model (and whether it’s multi-format)
- What you’re replacing (card, fob, disc) and whether you can provide a sample
- Whether you need printing only or print + authorised encoding
RFID vs NFC (what buyers mean)
RFID is the umbrella term for contactless identification; NFC is a short-range subset often used for 13.56 MHz “tap” interactions and some credential types. If you’re targeting tap-to-phone marketing, we can advise on NFC tag options; for access control, we’ll confirm what your readers accept.
Printing + photo ID + barcode/QR
Combine RFID with visible identity features such as photo ID, names, ID numbers and expiry dates. You can also add a barcode/QR code alongside RFID for backup scanning workflows. See Photo ID Cards for dedicated ID programme guidance.
Encoding (what it means and what we need)
Encoding means writing authorised data to the chip so it works with your system. Because formats vary by system, we only encode using your approved specification (often provided by your installer/security team).
Eco-led options (honest guidance)
RFID/NFC cards are composite products (card body + antenna + chip), so recyclability depends on construction and local facilities. We can advise on lower-impact options where feasible and keep claims specific. Explore Eco Cards, including Recyclable Cards and Wood Cards.
Custom sizes and formats
Most RFID credentials are CR80 (bank-card size), but we can supply other formats where suitable. See Custom Sized Cards.

Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between RFID and NFC?
RFID is the umbrella term for contactless identification using radio waves. NFC is a short-range subset often used for 13.56 MHz “tap” interactions and some credential types. If you’re not sure what you have, we’ll help confirm your reader/credential type.
Will your RFID cards work with our Paxton system?
They can, but compatibility depends on your reader type and credential technology. Paxton environments can use different token families, so we confirm what your readers accept before production. If you’re replacing existing cards or fobs, a sample credential can speed up identification.
What information do you need to quote for replacements?
Quantity, what you’re replacing (card/fob), your system/platform, and reader details (model/type). If you need print + authorised encoding, we’ll also confirm what your installer/security team can provide as the approved format/spec.
Can you encode RFID/smart cards?
Where required, yes — but only using your authorised specification. Encoding means writing approved data to the chip so it works with your system. Formats vary by platform, so we won’t guess.
Can you print photo ID and still use RFID?
Yes. Many organisations use RFID credentials with photo ID, names, roles and expiry dates for day-to-day identification. See Photo ID Cards for ID programme guidance.
Can we add a barcode or QR code as a backup?
Yes. Barcodes/QR codes are often used alongside RFID to support backup scanning or visual verification workflows, depending on your internal process.
Are RFID cards recyclable?
It depends on the construction because RFID/NFC cards are composite products (card body + antenna + chip). We’ll be clear about material choices and limitations and can advise on lower-impact options where feasible.
Do we get a proof before printing?
Yes — we provide a proof for approval before production.
Can you do custom sizes?
Yes — most credentials are CR80 (bank-card size), but other formats may be possible depending on the technology. See Custom Sized Cards.
Do you also supply related card programmes?
Yes. If you’re running rewards or stored value too, explore Loyalty Cards and Gift Cards.
