Many organisations, clubs, groups, trade unions, and societies, along with countless other professional bodies, choose to supply their members with a dedicated card which proves their affiliation. Membership cards are also used by many retailers as a way to incentivise brand loyalty by offering those with a card a discount, or unique offer.
If you are considering such a membership scheme for your club, group, or professional body, we’re here to help with some general tips, advice, and to let you know how best to go about ordering your membership cards.
Membership card design options
Firstly you have the option of artwork and layout. Practically anything can be printed on the front and / or back of your membership card. If you card is to have customer / member data printed on it, you’ll need to collate the data and supply it in spreadsheet form. Your chosen card printer will then be able to replicate the relevant fields onto your card. Data security is a real issue today, but any reputable card printer will be able to demonstrate their credentials and reassure you that any sensitive data is secure. You also have additional choices to make with regards to the quality / finish of the card itself.
Photo printing
Photos can also be printed onto membership cards. If your membership card design features a photo, here are some general tips;
- Firstly, you’ll need to set up a safe, easy to use uploading service to gather all the photos you require. Users should be given very clear instructions on how to submit the correct images, as well as a general insight into how the service works and what is done with any data you collect.
- Secondly, you’ll need to validate all photos before they are submitted because, as with any data supplied, the process for inserting photos into the design proper to printing, is fully automated. Images will need to be of sufficient size and be labelled correctly.
- Lastly, the image must be of the correct dimensions so as to fit the design layout. Some elements of the design, such as the location of the silicon chip frame, are permanently fixed in place, which means some headshots may therefore need to be cropped.
Supplementary membership card design services
Mail Handling – Is offered by many card printers as an additional service. This can include managing all incoming mail, no matter how many customers / members you have. Incoming mail can be scanned, recorded and then forwarded by email. The service can be very cost effective, allowing you to countertrade on core business activities. Call forwarding – Automatic call forwarding is another service often produced by card printing companies. With call forwarding, calls can be re-routed to the relevant person. Again, the service can be invaluable, particularly so for voluntary organisations who don’t want to disclose home numbers and personal information. Forwarded calls can also be restricted to specific periods during the day.
